What is a sound bath
Sound meditation is a form of focused awareness meditation, more commonly referred to as a sound bath. It is an experience of allowing the participant to be immersed by sound waves and vibrations which wash over and through the body. This ancient practice, used by many cultures, religions and mystic traditions is multidimensional. Music is multidimensional, linking realms of the brain and facilitating meditation independently of thought (insighttimer.com). It’s accessible to almost everyone with only a small contra-indication list, which makes it a modality of choice for a lot of people. The sound of a gong being played can help the brain reach levels of deep relaxation by activating our brainwaves such as delta and theta.
Some of the observed benefits of a sound bath as well as relaxation are improved sleep, healthier immune system, improved memory and concentration, enhanced creativity and improved clarity and balance.
Sound meditation transcends language, there are no words to identify with or interpret. The listener is able to set their own intention and meaning to what they heard, with no judgment and no expectation. You just literally allow the instruments to vibrate their waves of sound round you.
